Darkness Into Light
September 1998
Musings
In 1998, the mother of my good friend, Wendy, was diagnosed
with cancer. We prayed that she might be healed, and the
answer we received was her death. It was not the answer that
I expected or wanted. Why does a good God allow evil and
disease to take a foothold in the world? I suppose that the
only answer that makes sense to me is the cross. The cross is
the center of both suffering and hope -- hope that there in
the very midst of the anguish of tragedy, there is a loving
God who redeems through the great scandal of Christ.
